Introduction
Bleed air is supplied by the engines and is only used for engine cowl anti–ice
operations.
Engine Anti-ice Bleed Air Supply
Bleed air is supplied from a dedicated engine bleed port. Anti-ice valves are armed
when the ENGINE ANTI-ICE selectors are placed to AUTO. These valves open
when the ice detection system detects icing conditions or the selector is set to ON.
Hot bleed air then flows to the inlet cowl to keep ice from forming. The anti-ice
valves close when icing conditions are no longer detected or the selector is set to
OFF.
(Refer to Engine Anti–Ice System
in Chapter 3, Section 20, for additional
information.)
The engine anti-ice valves close automatically:
• during start
• for bleed air overtemperature
• for bleed air overpressure
• when an engine fire switch is pulled
• when a bleed air leak is detected
