SECTION 31 -- IMPLEMENT POWER TAKE-OFF -- CHAPTER 1
31-2
IMPLEMENT POWER TAKE-OFF (PT O)
The disc mowers use a telescoping 540 RPM PTO
driveshaft, 1, to transfer power to the mower. There
are two versions of PTO driveshafts used; the
MDX71 and MDX81 disc mowers use a standard
duty 540 PTO driveshaft, while the MDX91 disc mow-
er uses a heavy duty 540 PTO driveshaft. Both drive-
shafts are equipped with overrunning clutches, 2,
built into the rear yoke, to allow the disc mowers to
coast to a stop when the tractor PTO is disengaged.
The PTO driveshaft is connected to a pivoting jack-
shaft, 3, which provides for tensioning of the belt
drive to the cutter bar.

A 4V banded belt, 1, is used on all three models to
prevent belt failures due to belt rollover in tough cut-
ting conditions. The belt is tensioned by a spring-
loaded tensioner, 2, to simplify adjustment. The belt
drive transfers power to the bevel gearbox, 3, which
is mounted on the first module, 4, called the drive
module, on the cutter bar.
