INSPECTION
Inspect the breakaway components for evidence of
excessive wear or damage, and replace as neces-
sary.
Inspect the dog, 1, and pawl, 2, ramp surfaces for
wear or galling.
NOTE: If the dog ramp surface is worn, the dog can
be installed to use the opposite ramp surface.
If the dog retaining hardware was loose, inspect the
mounting bolts and holes in the channel for wear.
Check the free length of the breakaway spring; it
should be 7.75″±0.16″. Replace the spring if it has
collapsed to a shorter length, or if it is cracked.
Refer to the “Adjustments” section of this manual for
additional information on troubleshooting excessive
breakaway concerns.

ASSEMBLY
1. Slide the dog into the channel and position it over
the mounting holes. Install new patch bolts, 1, or
apply a locking compound to the original bolts,
and torque to 83 ft lbs (113 N⋅m).
NOTE: The dog mounting bolts must use a locking
compound, or they will loosen during operation,
causing excessive breakaways.
