CAUTION
The tubing between the Erlenmeyer ask and the water container of
the scrubber should be as short as possible. If necessary, shorten the
tubing to avoid any loops.
WARNING
Ensure that the tubing is installed correctly to avoid the possibility
of exposure to vapors. The ow should be directed so that the vapors
are directed into the tubing that extends below the surface of the
solution in the scrubber. The vapors are “cleansed” as they bubble to
the surface.
11. Using one of the 12” lengths of 1/4” tubing, connect one end of the tubing to
the connector on the scrubber bottle containing water. Connect the other end
of this tubing to the inlet connector on the scrubber bottle containing sodium
hydroxide. Using a wrench, tighten both connectors.
12. Using the other 12” length of 1/4” tubing, connect one of the tubing to the
outlet connector on the scrubber bottle containing sodium hydroxide. Connect
the other end of this tubing to the inlet connector on the scrubber bottle
containing no uid. Using a wrench, tighten both connectors.
13. Using one of the 3’ lengths of 3/8” tubing, connect one end of the tubing to the
outlet connector on the scrubber bottle containing no uid. Connect the other
end of this tubing to the “in” tting of the charcoal lter canister. Using a
wrench, tighten both connectors.
14. Using another one of the other 3’ length of 3/8” tubing, connect one end of the
tubing to the “out” tting of the charcoal lter canister. Connect the other end
of this tubing to the port labeled “V” on the vacuum pump.
15. Using the third 3’ length of 3/8” tubing, connect the end of the tubing labeled
“P” to the vacuum pump. Route the other end of this tubing to the exhaust
hood or other means of fume disposal.
16. Plug the vacuum pump into the electrical outlet. Turn the vacuum pump on and
check for proper ow. If there is no bubbling action in the scrubber, check all
connections for leaks.
