Product Manual Doc. 8559B 4-Series™ Control Systems 157
Authentication
4-Series control systems provide various authentication options that can be used to create user
accounts and passwords, to set password policies, and to set access levels for users and groups.
NOTE:Authentication is turned on by default for shipping control systems and cannot be
turned off. However, authentication can be turned off for control systems in existing
installations, even following an upgrade (with the exception of -Rseries residential control
systems, which force authentication on following a firmware upgrade).
Use the following procedures to configure authentication settings on the control system.
Create an Admin Account
The first time the web configuration interface is accessed, a dialog box is displayed asking the
user to create an admin account. A similar message is displayed when connecting to the control
system in Crestron Toolbox software if an admin account has not already been created.
To create an admin account:
1. Enter a username and password for the admin account in the appropriate text fields.
CAUTION: Do not lose the username and password for the admin account, as the
control system must be reset to factory settings to regain access.
2. Select OK. The username and password created in step 1 must be entered to regain access
to the web configuration interface.
NOTE: The username and password must also be entered when connecting from
Crestron Toolbox.
Account Recovery
If the username or password for the admin account is lost, the following procedures can be used
to recover access.
Factory Restore
To perform a factory restore, follow the procedure described in Restore to Factory Defaults (on
page210). All control system settings are restored to their factory defaults, and all user and
group accounts are removed.
Upon connecting to the control system after it has been restored, the control system will prompt
to create an admin account as described in Create an Admin Account (above).
