Restrictionson setting user permissions
Auser cannot set another user'spermission level higher than their own permission level, nor can a
user raise their own permission level.
Set user permissions
To set user permissions, choose one of the following options:

Set user permissions from theweb interface:
1. Select Configuration > Users.
2. Click a user under User Name.
3. Click User Permissions.
4. Alist of featuregroupingsand the user permissions for them appears. Customize these
settings as needed.
5. Click Apply.

Set user permissions from thecommand-lineinterface:
Usethe set permissionscommand to set permissions from thecommand-lineinterface. See
the Digi Connect®Family Command Reference for the command description.
Password authentication
By default, password authentication isenabled for Digi Connect and ConnectPort TSFamily devices.
That means a login prompt appearswhen you accessthe device by opening the web interfaceor
issuing a telnet command. Thedefault user name isroot and the unique default password is printed
on the device label. If the password isnot on the device label, thedefault password isdbps. If neither
of the defaultswork, the password may havebeen updated. Contact your system administrator.
Disable password authentication
You can disable password authentication as needed.
To change a password from theweb interface:
1. Select Configuration >Users.
2. On the Users Configuration page, select the Enable password authentication check box.
3. Click Apply.
To change a password from thecommand line:

Issue a newpasscommand with a zero-length password.
Control user access
This section provides information about additional methodsfor controlling user access.
Disable unused and non-secure network services
To further securethe Digi Connect and ConnectPort TSFamily product, you can disable network
services that arenot required for the Digi device. You can disable non-secure or un-encrypted network
services such as Telnet. See Network ServicesSettings.
