Serial: Use the GPIOpin for standard serial communication signaling. Each pin mapsto a
different serial signal: DCD, CTS, DSR, and so on. The following table liststhe default serial
settings for theGPIOpinson a Digi device. Depending on the device, there arefive or ninepins.
Pin Number Default Serial Signal Signal Direction
GPIO1 DCD Input
GPIO2 CTS Input
GPIO3 DSR Input
GPIO4 RTS Output
GPIO5 DTR Output
GPIO6 TXD Output
GPIO7 RXD Input
GPIO8 TXDfor port 2 Output
GPIO9 RXDfor port 2 Input
n
In: Allows input of GPIOsignals. Use the GPIOpin for user-defined signal input from the
connected device to the Digi device. Alarms are issued when GPIOpins change state. You can
use input mode with alarmsto trigger email notifications or SNMPtraps when a particular
signal change isdetected, asdiscussed in AlarmsConfiguration.
n
Input mode: Allowsinput of GPIOsignals.
n
Out: Allowsoutput of GPIOsignals. You can use theGPIOpin for user-defined signal output
from theDigi device to the connected device. You can use thismode to toggle the output of
GPIOsignals between high and low.
Additional implementation required for input and output choices
Changing the GPIOpin settings from Serial to Input or Output meansyou areresponsible for
implementing how the pinsand signals will work, including developing any applications, signal-
handling, and hardware.
Set alarmsfor GPIO pin changes
You can configure the Digi Connect and ConnectPort TSFamily to send alarms in the form of email
notificationsor SNMPtrapswhen a GPIOpin signalsan event has occurred on the Digi device. See
AlarmsConfiguration for more information.
