Before You Begin
Before you begin to disassemblythe computer, keep in mind the precautions and advice
in this section. Always begin disassemblyby removing the AC adapterand battery pack.
Removethe optional parts andaccessoriesaswell. The proceduresfor removing the batteries
will be explainedlater.
Disassemblethe computer only when anabnormality hasoccurred.
Use only the recommendedtools.
To run and store the computer, be sureto preparea working environment that is free
from:
Dust andcontaminants
Static electricity
Extremely high or low temperaturesandextremely high humidity
Run the diagnostic testsexplained in Chapter3 of this manual to identify the FRU that
hasprobably causedthe system failure.
Perform only the required machine operations. Useonly the disassemblyand
reinstallation proceduresdescribedin this manual.
Place the removed componentsin a safe place away from the computer so that they are
not damagedor get in the way of you doing your work.
Normally, a number of screwsneedto be removedor replaced during disassembling.
Place the removed screwsin a safe place sothat you caneasily find the right screwsfor the
right components.
When assembling the computer, usethe specified screws to fasten the parts to the
specified locations. Seethe appropriate explanations andfigures for screw sizes.
To avoid personal injury, usecare to handle componentsthat have sharpedgesor corners.
After you havereplaced a FRU, check that the FRU works correctly to ensurenormal
computer operation.
