Connecting Power to the Switch
2-20 Installation
If you experience any problems with this installation, contact Enterasys Networks for assistance
(refer to ā€œGetting Helpā€ on page xvi).
Connecting to a Single Power Source
The primary fault relay monitors the primary and secondary power input. When connecting a
single power supply, you need to connect the positive inputs of both the Primary and Secondary
connectors to prevent a constant alarm (relay is always open). Figure 2-16 shows a wiring
diagram.
Figure 2-16 Wiring Diagram for a Single Power Source
Refer to Figure 2-16 as you perform the following procedure.
To connect a single power source:
1. Ground the I-Series chassis by attaching a 14 to 20 AWG solid copper ground cable
(customer-provided) to the ground connector on the front panel of the chassis directly below
the power connectors.
2. Make sure the power supply is currently disconnected.
3. Identify the positive and negative leads.
4. Make sure the wires (14 to 20 AWG solid copper, customer-provided) are stripped to 0.25 inch
(6.3 mm) +
0.02 inch (0.5 mm). Stripping more can leave exposed wire from the power
connector.
5. Insert the positive wire into the primary connector (marked +), as shown in Figure 2-16.
6. Insert the connecting wire into both the primary and secondary connectors (marked +), as
shown in Figure 2-16. Turn the screws on the primary and secondary connectors (marked +) to
secure the positive and connecting wires.
7. Insert the negative wire into the secondary connector (marked -), as shown in Figure 2-16.
Turn the screw to secure the negative wire. You do not need to insert a connecting wire into
the negative input of the primary connector.
Note: If you accidentally connect the wrong polarity, the I-Series switch will not work. However, it
will not be damaged.
