Mounting the Switch
Enterasys I-Series Hardware Installation Guide 2-11
b. If you do plan to use the cable retention bracket, you will attach it to the chassis after the
port cables have been inserted, which at the same time will secure the IOM to the front of
the switch. Refer to “Securing the IOM Cables” on page 2-34 for more information.
12. Return the bottom access panel to the switch and reinsert the screws.
Mounting the Switch
Perform one of the following to install the switch:
• If you are installing the I-Series switch as a freestanding device, install the rubber feet as
described in “Placing the Switch on a Flat Surface” on page 2-11.
• Install the rack-mount kit (optional) and mount the switch to a 48.26-centimeter (19-inch) rack
or other secure location, as described in “Installing the Switch into a Rack” on page 2-11.
• Install the optional DIN clips and mount the switch to a DIN rail, as described in “Installing
the Switch to a DIN Rail” on page 2-14.
Placing the Switch on a Flat Surface
When installing the switch on a flat surface, the installation of the rubber feet is recommended to
prevent the switch from sliding. Also, the surface must be able to support 4.36 kilograms
(9.6 pounds) of static weight.
To install the rubber feet, proceed as follows:
1. Place the switch upside down on a sturdy flat surface.
2. Remove the four rubber feet from the shipping box.
3. Remove the protective strip from the back of one rubber foot and position it on one of the
corners on the bottom of the switch. Press firmly into place. Repeat this procedure to install
the remaining rubber feet in the other corners.
4. After installing the rubber feet, return the switch to its upright position.
5. Place the switch in its final location.
Installing the Switch into a Rack
The I-Series switch can be mounted in a standard EIA-310-D compliant 48.26-centimeter (19-inch)
equipment rack. To mount the switch into a rack, you must first install the optional rack-mount
kit, which consists of two brackets. Then you can attach the switch brackets to the rails using the
mounting screws provided.
Installing the rubber feet is optional if you are installing the switch in a rack. If you wish to install
the rubber feet, follow the procedure in “Placing the Switch on a Flat Surface” on page 2-11.
If you wish to mount the optional I3H-PWR external AC to DC power supply on a rack with the
I-Series switch, refer to “Attaching the External Power Supply to the Rack Mount Bracket” on
page 2-13.
Note: The I-Series switch must not exceed the 2U high Richmond standard and must comply with
the requirements for mounting in a 19-inch (48.26-centimeter) rack.
