Sample Loading and Injection
Cell samples in the carousel are aspirated via the fill pump. The sample is drawn in through
the probe towards the selector valve and then into the sample loop with the switching valve
in the load position. Once sample is loaded into the sample loop, the switching valve
switches to the inject position and sample is pushed to the nebulizer via the push pump.
Maxpar CAS Plus is used as a carrier to push sample to the injector and into the system. An
air bubble is loaded in between Maxpar CAS Plus and the sample to prevent mixing at the
interface between Maxpar CAS Plus and sample. The sample loop can hold a maximum of
250 µL, so when larger volumes are being acquired, the sample loop reloads with sample
after each 250 µL has been injected. When less than 250 µL of sample is being loaded, the
rest of the sample loop remains filled with Maxpar CAS Plus. This function is also used to
inject EQ6 beads during tuning.
