Chapter 4: Maintenance
CyTOF XT Routine Cleaning
Before performing maintenance on the cones, switch off the RFG power using the
red circuit breaker at the right-side panel of the system. Wait at least 5 min for
residual electrical charge to dissipate.
CAUTION Hot surface hazard. The torch components, the vacuum interface, and
the heater assembly components remain hot for some time after the plasma has
been shut off. Allow sufficient time, at least 20 min, for these items to cool to room
temperature before you handle them.
CAUTION Bleach, Contrad® 100/Decon 90, and Citranox are caustic substances.
To prevent skin irritation or eye damage, protective gloves, clothing, and eye/face
protection must be worn.
Several sources of contamination may be introduced in the CyTOF® XT system. It is
important to clean the nebulizer and sample loop, probe line, glassware, spray chamber,
and cones regularly to ensure optimal instrument performance.
NOTE Always wear non-latex powder-free gloves when working with the instrument and
handling its parts.
IMPORTANT For rinsing after cleaning the CyTOF XT system and its parts, we recommend
