Cleaving Operation
4. Clean the insert with an alcohol-impregnated cotton swab. If the inserts are not clean
enough, the fiber may slip during cleaving. Always inspect the insert before cleaving. If
the insert is dirty, clean with alcohol.
5. Remove the coating from the fiber and clean the cladding and the coating surface to be
clamped with an alcohol-moistened wipe. (Areas shown below)
6. Place the fiber on the groove of the lower insert. Adjust the end of the coating to the
scale mark according to the desired cleave length setting.
Make sure the loaded fiber spans the entire length of both upper clamps.
¾ If you use alcohol to
clean the fiber, use an alcohol having 99% or greater purity.
