Carefully remove the defective CPU from its socket (2) in a vertical motion.
V CAUTION!
Be careful not to touch or bend the spring contacts on the CPU
socket.
Ê
Thoroughly clean residual thermal paste from the CPU surface using a lint-
free cloth.
Ê
Store the CPU in a save place for later reuse.
V CAUTION!
CPUs are extremely sensitive to electrostatic discharge and must be
handled with care. After a CPU has been removed from its protective
sleeve or from its socket, place it upside down on a nonconducting,
antistatic surface. Never push a CPU over a surface.
11.3.3 Installing the protective socket cover

Carefully lower the load plate over the CPU socket (see figure 269).

Fully fold back the socket release lever marked
Close 1st
until the bail on the
lever catches the latch on the load plate (see figure 270).

Close the socket release lever marked
Close 1st
and latch it under the load
plate retention tab (see figure 271).

Close the socket release lever marked
Open 1st
and latch it under the load
plate retention tab (see figure 272).
