If the gear change dials on your Grizzly Lathe will not shift into position, the gears may not be aligned inside the headstock or quick-change gearbox. Rotate the spindle by hand with light pressure on the dial until the gears fall into place.
What causes sloppy operation in my Grizzly G0824 cross slide?
Sloppy operation in the cross slide, compound rest, or carriage feed of your Grizzly Lathe can be attributed to a few factors. The gibs may be out of adjustment, so adjust them accordingly. Excessive backlash in the handwheel can also cause this issue; tighten the handwheel fasteners or adjust the handwheel backlash to a minimum. Lastly, the leadscrew mechanism may be worn or out of adjustment, requiring adjustment to remove end play.
