5.1.3 Replacing an SPD Module in the Power Distribution
Cabinet
Prerequisites
Do not replace a surge protection device (SPD) module during a thunderstorm.
An SPD module is faulty.
A spare SPD module of the same model is available and functional.

Preparations
Tools: Phillips screwdriver, flat-head screwdriver, electrical tester pen
Material: spare SPD module
Documents required: PDC user manual
Skill requirement: electrician's work permit
Procedure
Step 1 Remove the protective panel of the SPD module.
Avoid touching any charged body when removing the panel.
Step 2 Switch off the SPD circuit breaker.
Step 3 Detect the L1, L2, L3, and N voltages to the PE using an electrical tester pen, and verify that
the faulty SPD has no voltage before replacing the faulty SPD module. Figure 5-2 shows how
to detect the voltages.
