Object Type and ID
ThePC3LEstoresitsobjectsinmemoryusingasystemofIDnumbers.Eachobjectisidentified
byitsobjecttypeandobjectID.Anobject’stypeissimplythekindofobjectitis,whetherit’sa
program,setup,song,etc.TheobjectIDisanumberthatdistinguisheseach
objectfromother
objectsofthesametype.Forexampleyoucanhaveasetup,aprogram,andaneffect,allwithID
4becausetheyaredifferentobjecttypes.Youcan’t,however,havetwoprogramswithID4.
Whenyousaveobjectsthatyou’veedited,thePC3LEwillaskyou
toassignanID.Iftheoriginal
objectwasaROMobject(factorypreset,)thePC3LEwillsuggestthefirstavailableIDinthe
Usercategory(startingat1025).Iftheoriginalobjectwasamemoryobject(usercreated,)youll
havetheoptionofsavingtoan unusedID,or
replacingtheoriginalobject.Doublepressthe‐
and+buttons(beneaththeAlphaWheel)toselectthenextavailableuserlocation.
ObjectsofdifferenttypescanhavethesameID,butobjectsofthesametypemusthavedifferent
IDstobekeptseparate.Whenyou resavinganobjectthatyou’ve
edited,youcanreplacean
existingobjectofthesametypebygivingitthesameID.Theobjectyouarereplacingwillbe
deletedpermanently.Thereisoneexceptiontothis:IfyouwriteoveraROMobject(factory
preset,)youcanalwaysreverttotheoriginalfactoryROM
objectbydeleting younewobjectthat
usestheID.TheobjectthatyouhadreplacedtheROMobjectwithwillbepermanentlydeleted,
andtheoriginalROMobjectwillappearinitsplace.
ManyparametershaveobjectsastheirvaluestheShiftPattrnparameteronthe
ARPEGGIATORpage,forexample.Inthis
case,theobject’sIDappearsinthevaluefieldalong
withtheobject’sname.YoucanenterobjectsasvaluesbyenteringtheirIDswiththe
alphanumericpad.Thisisespeciallyconvenientforprograms,sincetheirIDnumbersare
usuallythesameastheirMIDIprogramchangenumbers.
Theobjecttype
andIDenableyoutostorehundredsofobjectswithoutlosingtrackofthem,and
alsotoloadfilesfromstoragewithouthavingtoreplacefilesyou’vealreadyloaded.
