Deleting Objects
Withinmosteditors,therearesoftbuttonsfordeletingobjects.Whenyouwanttodeletean
object,presstheDeletesoftbutton,andthePC3LEwillaskyouifyouwanttodeletetheobject.
(Atthispointinthedialog,youcanselectanotherobjectwithanyofthedata
entrymethods.)
PressOKifyouwanttodeleteit,orpressCancelifyoudon’t.ThePC3LEwon’tletyoudelete
ROMobjects(alsoknownas“factory”objects).
Memoryobjects,ontheotherhand,aregonewhenyoudeletethem!Ifyou’ve“replaced”aROM
objectbysavingamemory
objectwiththesameID,theROMobjectisinvisible,butstillthere.
DeletingthememoryobjectstoredatthesameIDwillrestoretheROMobject.
Youlloftendeleteobjects togainmemoryspace,ortoorganizethememorybanksbeforesaving
objectstostorage.
Dependent Objects
Adependentobjectisanobjectthat’slinkedinmemorywithatleastoneotherobject.For
example,ifyoucreateasetupthatusesaprogramthatyoualsocreated,thatprogramisa
dependentobjectofthesetup.
Whenyoustarttodeleteanobjectthathasdependentobjects,
theDeletedialoggivesyoua
choice:Deletedependentobjects?IfyoupressYes,thePC3LEwilldeletetheobjectandallits
dependentobjectswhenyouexecutetheDeletefunction.Continuingwiththeexamplefrom
above,ifyouweredeletingthesetupyoucreated,andyouchosetodelete
dependentobjects,
thedependentprogramwouldgetdeletedaswell.IfyoupressNoattheDeletedependent
objects?prompt,thePC3LEdeletesonlytheobject,butkeepsthedependentobjects.In this
example,thesetupwouldgetdeleted,butthedependentprogramwouldremain.
Whendeletingobjectsandtheirdependents,
thePC3LEdeletesonlythosedependentobjects
thataren’tdependentonotherobjectsthatyou renotde leting.Forexample,supposeyouhave
twosetupsthatcontainthesameprogram.Ifyoudeleteoneofthesetups,anddeletedependent
objectswithit,thesetupgetsdeleted,buttheprogramthat’s contained
intheothersetup
remainsinmemory.
Saving and Loading Files—Storage Mode
Savingafilesimplyinvolvesselectingsingleobjectsoralluserobjectstobestoredasasingle
file.Whenyouloadafile,thePC3LEasksyouifyouwanttomaintaintheID#sthatweresaved
withtheoriginalobjects(whichwillreplaceanyobjectsonthePC3LEthat
sharethoseID#s)orif
youwouldliketoaddthemtothePC3LE’sexistingobjects(thiswillnotreplaceanyobjects,the
PC3LEwillinsteadautomaticallyreassigntheobjectID#siftheyarealreadybeingused.)
