5 OPERATING THE SPLENDIMO
®
PC
Make sure that nobody is near the machine at the
moment the PTO is engaged.
Do not allow anyone to come within a 100 m radius from
the machine during work.
Stop the tractor engine before leaving the tractor cab.
The safety covers, canopies and plating (fig. 13) are
essential protective components of the machine. So:
operate the mower only with these components duly
fitted.
Always operate with the safety cover folded down.
Secure it firmly in the clamp block ( fig. 13).
The following directions should be followed for operating
the machine:
The SPLENDIMO 281 and 321 PC mowers can only operate
on the RH side of the tractor; the SPLENDIMO 320 PC
mower can be positioned, according to your preference, to
the LH or RH side of the tractor.
- Adjust the draw bar position in such a way that the full
working width is used without the tractor having to drive
on crop that still needs to be mown. Also make sure that the
tractor stays clear of the freshly mown swath.
- Lower the machine by means of the hydraulic ram (fig. 14)
until it is just above crop level.
- Engage the PTO shaft at the lowest possible engine
r.p.m..
- Rev up PTO speed up to 540 or 1.000 RPM which is the
maximum RPM allowed during work.
- Lower the machine into the crop.
- Ensure the floating position of the hydraulic valve; the
rams have to telescope smoothly throughout the operation.
- Do not drive too slowly. Effective working speeds start at
approx. 8 km/h. A lower speed may affect crop flow-
through across the cutter bar.
- Make sure that the PTO speed of 540 or1.000 r.p.m. is
maintained during work.
A (temporary) drop of speed may cause crop entanglement
in the c utter bar and/or winding of long crop material
underneath the discs.
