Movingyourcomputer
Takethefollowingprecautionsbeforemovingyourcomputer:
1.Backupallfilesanddatafromtheharddiskdrive.Thereareavarietyofbackupprogramsavailable
commercially.IfyouusetheWindows7operatingsystem,LenovoprovidestheRescueandRecovery
programtohelpyoubackupandrestoredata.See“Performingbackupandrecoveryoperations”
onpage90.
2.Removeallmediafromyourcomputer,suchasdiscs,USBstoragedevices,memorycards,andsoon.
3.Turnoffthecomputerandallattacheddevices.Yourharddiskdriveautomaticallyparkstheread/write
headinanondataarea.Thispreventsdamagetotheharddiskdrive.
4.Unplugthepowercordsfromelectricaloutlets.
5.Disconnectcommunicationcables,suchasmodemornetworkcables,fromtheoutletsfirst,andthen
disconnecttheotherendsfromthecomputer.
6.Notewhereanyremainingcablesareattachedtothecomputer;then,removethem.
7.Ifyousavedtheoriginalshippingcartonsandpackingmaterials,usethemtopacktheunits.Ifyouare
usingdifferentcartons,cushiontheunitstoavoiddamage.
