Creatingandusingarescuemedium
CreaterescuemediausingdiscsorUSBstoragedevicesasearlyaspossible.Youcanusearescuemedium
torecoverfromfailuresthatpreventyoufromgainingaccesstotheWindowsenvironmentortheRescue
andRecoveryworkspaceonyourstoragedrive.
Notes:
•Therecoveryoperationsyoucanperformusingarescuemediumvarydependingontheoperatingsystem.
•Therescuedisccanbestartedinalltypesofopticaldrives.
Creatingarescuemedium
TocreatearescuemediumontheWindows7operatingsystem,dothefollowing:
1.FromtheWindowsdesktop,clickStart➙AllPrograms➙LenovoThinkVantageTools➙Enhanced
BackupandRestore.TheRescueandRecoveryprogramopens.
2.IntheRescueandRecoverymainwindow,clicktheLaunchadvancedRescueandRecoveryarrow.
3.ClicktheCreateRescueMediaicon.The“CreateRescueandRecoveryMedia”windowopens.
4.IntheRescueMediaarea,selectthetypeoftherescuemediumyouwanttocreate.Youcancreatea
rescuemediumusingadisc,aUSBstoragedevicewithsufficientcapacity,orasecondaryinternal
storagedrive.
5.ClickOKandfollowtheinstructionsonthescreentocreatearescuemedium.
Usingarescuemedium
DependingonwhetheryouhavecreatedarescuemediumusingadiscoraUSBstoragedrive,doone
ofthefollowing:
•Ifyouhavecreatedarescuemediumusingadisc,dothefollowing:
1.Turnonorrestartyourcomputer.
2.Whenyouseethelogoscreen,repeatedlypressandreleasetheF12key.Thestartupdevicemenu
windowisdisplayed.
3.Selectthedesiredopticaldriveasthefirstbootdevice.Then,inserttherescuediscintotheoptical
driveandpressEnter.Therescuemediumstarts.
•IfyouhavecreatedarescuemediumusingaUSBstoragedrive,dothefollowing:
1.ConnecttheUSBstoragedrivetooneoftheUSBconnectorsonyourcomputer.
2.Turnonorrestartyourcomputer.
3.Whenyouseethelogoscreen,repeatedlypressandreleasetheF12key.Thestartupdevicemenu
windowisdisplayed.
4.SelecttheUSBstoragedriveasthefirstbootdeviceandpressEnter.Therescuemediumstarts.
Whentherescuemediumstarts,theRescueandRecoveryworkspaceopens.Thehelpinformationfor
eachfeatureisavailablefromtheRescueandRecoveryworkspace.Followtheinstructionstocomplete
therecoveryprocess.
