Chapter 6: Reference
The reference chapter provides additional information such as lubricants, fluids, and system capacities, fuel and torque
specifications, a unit conversion chart, and a list of acronyms, abbreviations, and terms used in this publication.
6.1 Torque Specifications
The following tables provide correct torque values for various bolts, cap screws, and hydraulic fittings.
Tighten all bolts to torque values specified in charts (unless otherwise noted throughout this manual).
Replace hardware with same strength and grade of bolt.
Use torque value tables as a guide and periodically check tightness of bolts.
Understand torque categories for bolts and cap screws by using their identifying head markings.
Jam nuts
When applying torque to finished jam nuts, multiply the torque applied to regular nuts by f=0.65.
Self-tapping screws
Standard torque is to be used (NOT to be used on critical or structurally important joints).
6.1.1 SAE Bolt Torque Specifications
Torque values shown in following tables are valid for non-greased, or non-oiled threads and heads; therefore, do NOT
grease or oil bolts or cap screws unless otherwise specified in this manual.
