Starting System Troubleshooting
Problem Possible Cause Solution
Starter motor does not
turn
1. Open circuit, dirty or loose
connections.
1. Clean and tighten connections at battery and starter.
Check wiring and connections between ignition switch
and starter solenoid.
2. Bad starter relay. 2. Replace starter relay.
3. Bad ignition switch. 3. Replace switch.
4. Worn starter motor, bad
starter solenoid, or internal
problem in engine.
4. Repair or replace starter, replace solenoid, or see engine
manual.
5. Dead battery. 5. Recharge or replace battery.
6. Travel select lever not in
neutral.
6. Place lever in “N” position.
7. Bad neutral start relay. 7. Replace relay.
