REMOVING AND INSTALLING THE
SWINGAWAY JIB
NOTE: The hydraulic jib must be at 0 degree offset for
erecting and stowing the jib.
Removal
NOTE: If an adequate lifting device is available, the
swingaway jib can be dismounted directly from the
side of the boom.
1. Fully extend and set the outriggers.
2. Position the boom over the front.
3. If extended, fully retract all the boom sections and lower
the boom to minimum elevation to permit ease of
installation of pins and access to the boom nose.
NOTE: The auxiliary boom nose (rooster sheave) must be
in stowed position or removed.
4. Pull the eye bolt (3) downwards and fold out the guide
rail (5) and release the eye bolt to lock the guide rail in
the out position (Detail B) (Figure 4-15).
NOTE: If removing the 7m (23 ft) section with the 11 m (36
ft) (11 m) section (jib base) skip to step 10. If not
removing the 7m (23 ft) section with the 11 m (36 ft)
(11m) section, perform steps 5 thru 9 and skip
steps 10 and 11.
5. At the rear jib support bracket (Detail C) (Figure 4-15)
remove the two retainer clips from the two attach pins
(16a) and remove attach pins from the 11m section to
the 7m (23 ft) section attaching connection.
6. Stow the pins on the fly section in the stowage lugs.
7. Ensure the pins (16b) attaching the fly section to the
boom base section rear extension support bracket
(Detail C) (Figure 4-15) are in place.
8. Ensure the pin (9) and retaining pin (1) attaching the fly
section to the guide rail bracket (Detail B) (Figure 4-15)
is in place.
9. At the fly section sheave end (Detail D) (Figure 4-15)
swivel the catch hook (32) out to release the latch
allowing the 11 m (36 ft) section to separate from the fly
at the sheave end.
10. Remove the retaining pin (1) and pin (9) attaching the fly
to the guide rail bracket (Detail B) (Figure 4-15) and
secure in the holding bracket.
11. Remove the retaining clips and attach pins (16b)
connecting the 7m (23 ft) section to the boom base
section rear stowage bracket (Detail C) (Figure 4-15).
12. Attach a length of rope to the swingaway tip to aid in
swinging the 11 m (36 ft) section into place ahead of the
boom nose. Attach the rope to the boom or other
location to prevent the extension from rotating freely
when the extension is released from the front stowage
bracket.
13. Swing the 11 m (36 ft) section, pivoting on the front jib
stowage connection (16) (Detail A) (Figure 4-15), until
contact is made between the main boom anchor lugs
(11) and the 11 m (36 ft) extension anchoring fittings
(10). Align the boom anchor lugs with the 11m extension
fittings. Remove the retaining pins from the front of the
11 m extension and install the two short pins into the
anchoring lug holes securing the extension to the right
side of the boom nose.
14. On the front jib stowage bracket, use the jib extension
pole to remove the clip pin and retaining pin (18) and
place in pin holder (Detail A) (Figure 4-15).
15. Lift the lever (15) and hold it, push the spring latch (24)
out and let the lever rest on the spring latch.
DANGER
Crushing Hazard!
Before attempting to erect or stow the jib, read and strictly
adhere to all danger decals installed on the swingaway
and stowage brackets.
Always secure the jib with a guide rope on the main boom
before removing any connections to prevent uncontrolled
swinging of jib.
CAUTION
If the 7m (23 ft) section (fly) is not to be removed, it should
remain on the stowage brackets on the side of the boom.
DANGER
Crushing Hazard!
To prevent serious injury or death, do not stand or sit on
the crane deck when pulling the jib off the stowage ramp.
Once the front latch pins are removed and the jib is free
from the ramp it may abruptly swing with enough force to
severely injure or cause death to anyone standing or
sitting on the crane deck.
DO NOT remove the retaining pin (18) (Detail A)
(Figure 4-15) while standing on the crane deck. Remove
the retaining pin after moving off the crane deck and onto
the ground using the jib extension pole (tool p/n
7714100000) located in the cab.
