Learning
method
®
This
remote
control
(RC-73SR)
can
learn,
or
program
in
itself,
the
remote
control
code
of
any
function
preset
under
any
button
of
the
remote
control
of
any
system
component,
except
for
the
POWER
switch
of
the
SR-73.
The
functions
of
the
components
that
can
be
controlled
through
the
D-BUS
(RC-5)
need
not
be
learned,
but
the
functions
of
other
components
must
be
learned
before
they
can
be
controlled
from
the
RC-73SR
remote
control.
To
make
the
RC-73SR
learn
the
remote
control
code
of a
function
of
acomponent,
follow
the
learning
procedure
described
below.
=_
.
Set the
mode
switch
to
LEARN.
2.
Select
the
type
of
component
by
combining
the
positions
of
two
system
switches.
For
example,
to
have
the
RC-73SR
learn
the
func-
tions
of
the
LD
player,
set
system
switch
1
to
TV/LD/VCR1/VCR2,
and
set
system
switch
2
to
CD/LD.
3.
On
the
RC-73SR,
press
the
button
corresponding
to
the
function
to
be
learned.
For
example,
if
the
function
to
be
learned
is
playback,
press
_
the
PLAY
(Bm)
button
on
the
remote
control.
The
Learn
indicator
will
light
up.
4.
Place
the
remote
control
of
the
component
with
the
function
to
be
learned
ata
distance
of
about
20
cm
(8
inches)
from
the
RC-73SR,
with
the
head
(transmitting
end)
of
the
former
remote
control
pointing
towards
the
head
of
the
RC-73SR.
5.
Onthe
remote
control
unit
of
the
component,
press
and
hold
down
the
button
of
the
function
to
be
learned,
until
the
learning
indicator
of
the
RC-73SR
starts
to
flash
and
then
goes
off.
The
learning
operation
is
complete
when
the
indicator
goes
out.
6.
Set
the
mode
switch
to
USER.
Note:
When
the
system
mode
switch
is
in
the
USER
position,
the
buttons
which
have
not
learned
any
function
output
the
D-BUS
(RC-5)
codes
when
they
are
pressed.
In
the
RC-5
(D-BUS)
position,
all
buttons
output
the
D-BUS
(RC-5)
codes.
The
REC
(@)
and
APPEND
buttons
are
usually
used
together
with
the
PAUSE
button.
However,
if
the
REC
or
APPEND
button
has
learned
a
function
of
another
compo-
nent,
pressing
the
button
together
with
the
PAUSE
button
cannot
output
the
desired
code.
When
the
REC
(@)
or
APPEND
button
has
learned
a
function,
that
button should
be
pressed
alone;
this
re-
quires
care
in
order to avoid
erroneous,
unintended
recording.
Functions
that
can
be
learned
The
RC-73SR
remote
control
includes
the
buttons
which
can
learn
the
remote
control
code
of
only
one
function
and
the
buttons
which
can
learn
the
remote
control
codes
of
two
to
four
kinds
of
functions
depending on
the
system
switch
combination.
The
numeric
buttons
can
learn
four
functions,
while
the
TY
POWER
button
can
learn
only
one
function.
The
number
of
functions
that
can
be
learned
by
each
button
is
shown
in
the
table
below.
In
the
table,
each
area
enclosed
in
a
frame
indicates
one
function
that
can
be
learned.
Basically,
four
areas
can
be
selected
by
combining
the
two
system
switches,
while
some
buttons
can
learn
only
one
function,
in
order
to
avoid
confusion.
*
Buttons
marked
?
output
the
remote
control
codes
which
are
not
used
with
the
SR-73.
12
Note:
The
RC-73SR
remote
control
incorporates
a
large-capacity
RAM,
so
that
almost
all
buttons
can
learn
several
functions.
All
buttons
can
learn
the
remote
control
codes
of
the
D-BUS
(RC-5)
format.
Note:
in
the
table,
the
buttons
with
the
TOTAL
number
of
1
can
learn
only
one
function,
regardless
of
the
system
switch
positions.
These
buttons
therefore
always
output
the
same
remote
control
code.
Meanwhile,
with
other
buttons,
the
remote
control
codes
they
can
learn vary,
depending
on
the
system
switch
positions,
so
care
is
required.
If
itis
necessary
to
always
output
the
same
remote
control
code from
a
button
which
can
learn
many,
change
the
system
switch
positions
and
let
it
learn
with
every
combination.
For
example,
the
[VCR2/LD]
POWER
button
of
No.
30
can
learn
a
total
of
four
remote
control
codes
with
the
four
combinations
of
the
system
switch
positions.
If
itis
necessary
to
output
only
the
remote
control
code
of
the
POWER
button
of
VCR2,
it
should
learn
the
same
code
four
times
with
four
combinations
of
the
two
system
switches.
In
this
way,
you
can
controi
the
components
without
worrying
about
the
system
switch
positions.
Recalling
the
preset
function
Even
after
a
button
has
learned
the
remote
control
code
of
a
function,
its
originally
preset
D-BUS
(RC-5)
code
can
be
recalled
at
any
time
by
following
the
procedure
below.
.
Set
the
mode
switch
to
LEARN.
2.
Press
the
POWER
button
(the
SR-73
power
switch)
and
the button
which
has
learned
a
function
simultaneously.
3.
Set
the
mode
switch
to
USER.

Learning
button
indications
Although
the
learning
buttons
can
be
used
to
operate
various
compo-
nents,
the
indications
printed
above
the
buttons
are
Marantz
D-BUS
(RC-5)
preset
code
indications.
To
make
it
easier
to
remember
which
buttons
perform
which
operations,
therefore,
we
recommend
that
you
program
operations
into
buttons
having the
same
or
similar
indications.
*
There
are
some
situations
where
programming
is
not
possible.
in
the
following
instances,
both
the
TX
and
LEARN
LEDs
will
flash
to
indicate that
programming
cannot
be
carried
out:
(1)
When
the
remote
control's
memory
is
full.
(2)
When
you
attempt
to
program
a
command
from
a
remote
control
using
a
different
signal
transmission
format.
