Preventive Maintenance
Stand clear when the tailgate is in motion
and during the unloading cycle. Do not stand
under or cross under the raised tailgate.
Serious personal injury or death may occur.

Arms and forks must be in the HOME position
4.7.1 Engaging the Standard Tailgate Prop
1. Standing behind the tailgate, release the pin (Figure 47,
Item 1) and swing the prop (Figure 47, Item 2) toward the
truck frame.
2. Start the engine and raise the tailgate.

3. Disable the refuse vehicle and shut the chassis engine
off.
4. Perform your company’s Lockout/Tagout procedure.
If your company does not have a Lockout/Tagout
procedure, follow OSHA 1910.147 and 1910.146
Conned Space as appropriate.
