MTBF—Mean-Time Between Failures
Multiple Address System (MAS)See Point-Multipoint System.
Network NameUser-selectable alphanumeric string that is used to
identify a group of iNET units that form a communications network.
The Access Point and all Remotes within a given system should have the
same network address.
Network-Wide DiagnosticsAn advanced method of controlling and
interrogating MDS radios in a radio network.
PING—Packet INternet Groper
Point-Multipoint SystemA radio communications network or
system designed with a central control station that exchanges data with
a number of remote locations equipped with terminal equipment.
PollA request for data issued from the host computer (or master PLC)
to a remote radio.
PLCProgrammable Logic Controller. A dedicated microprocessor
configured for a specific application with discrete inputs and outputs. It
can serve as a host or as an RTU.
RemoteAn iNET unit in a network that communicates with an asso-
ciated Access Point unit.
Remote Terminal UnitSee RTU.
RFIRadio Frequency Interference
RSSI—Received Signal Strength Indicator
RTURemote Terminal Unit. A data collection device installed at a
remote radio site.
SCADASupervisory Control And Data Acquisition. An overall term
for the functions commonly provided through an MAS radio system.
Skip Zone(s)—Groups of operating channels (frequencies) deleted
from the radio transmitter and receiver operating range.
SNMPSimple Network Transfer Protocol
SNR—Signal-to-Noise Ratio. A measurement of relative received
signal quality. High ratios will likely result in better signal detection and
performance.
