MDS 05-2806A01, Rev. A MDS iNET 900 User’s Guide 17
2.1 INTRODUCTION
The iNET 900 is equipped with an embedded management system that
is accessible through different data interfaces. These include the
COM1
(serial) port, the LAN (Ethernet) port and over the wireless network.
Essentially the same capabilities are available through either of these
paths.
You have a choice of using three common communications tools—a
computer terminal-emulator through the
COM1 port, Telnet, or a Web
browser through the
LAN (Ethernet) port. You must know the unit IP
address and the iNET Management System password and user name to
use the LAN port access.
The iNET Management System and its functions are divided in this
guide into five functional groups that are listed below.
• Section 2.3, CONFIGURING NETWORK PARAMETERS
(beginning on Page 28)
• Section 2.4, CONFIGURING RADIO PARAMETERS (begin-
ning on Page 29)
• Section 2.5, CONFIGURING THE SERIAL INTERFACES
(beginning on Page 31)
• Section 2.6, PERFORMANCE VERIFICATION (beginning on
Page 41)
• Section 2.7, MAINTENANCE (beginning on Page 53)
Each of these sections has a focus that is reflected in its heading. The
section you are now in will provide you with information on connecting
to the iNET Management System, how to navigate through it, and how
it is structured, and how to perform some top-level configuration tasks.
