8.3 Congure data interface as communication interface (DATPROT)
The interface is set up as a communication interface in the setup menu under COM1 "Data
protocols" ([DATPROT]) (see also Chapter ).
8.3.1 SBI communication
This is a single ASCII interface.
Menu item [SETUP]- [COM-1]- [DATPROT]- [SBI]- [6.3] is used to set how the data is
output (see also Chapter 6.3.2.1.1):
- Manual output of a display value with or without standstill (menu item 6.1.1 and 6.1.2).
- Automatic output of a display value with or without standstill (menu item 6.1.4 and
6.1.5) depending on a number of display cycles. The number of display intervals for
the output is set under menu item 6.3.
- Output of a congurable print protocol (menu item 6.1.7). Output is linked to the
menu item "Print protocols" (see Chapter 7.3).
With the exception of the output of a congurable print protocol, the current display
value (weight value with unit, calculated value, alphanumeric display) is output.
8.3.2 SMA communication
Standardized communication protocol of the Scale Manufacturers Association.
8.4 Data input format
A computer connected via the data interface (SBI communication) can send control
commands to the indicator in order to control the weighing or application functions.
All commands have a shared frame format (data input format). They start with the
character ESC (ASCII: 27) and end with the character sequence CR (ASCII: 13) and LF
(ASCII: 10). Their length varies from min. 4 characters (1 command character) up to max.
7 characters (4 command characters). When sending texts, this gure may also be higher.
The commands shown in the following table must each have the frame format ESC … CR
LF added.
Example: The output command "P" ("Send display value") must be sent to the indicator.
The character sequence "ESC P CR LF" is sent for this purpose.
