Theory of Operation 4-7
4.2.3 Station Reference
A Temperature Compensated Crystal Oscillator (TCXO) or Oven Controlled Crystal Oscillator
(OCXO) constitute two different SCMs and provide frequency reference for the base station/
repeater. The TCXO or OCXO is 16.8 MHz.
The stability of the TCXO is ±0.5 ppm over temperature (-30ºC to +85ºC) with an aging rate of
±1.0 ppm per year and ±3.0 ppm over 10 years. This stability is sufficient for some applications but
not for others. The MTR3000 controller will also have the option to use an OCXO for high stability
applications (800/900 MHz). This change will be transparent to the software. The stability of the
OCXO is ±50 ppb over temperature (-30ºC to +80ºC) with an aging rate of ±50 ppb per year. The
OCXO will not be placed for all applications other than 800/900 MHz.
