Section 060-INDP-310 System Administration Guide 3-3
BMC II BISYNC Operation, Administration, and Maintenance Guide BMCB001 and up
Machine-Machine Interface
The BMC provides interface for the Switching System and the HOC. The
Switching System transmits call record data to the BMC. The HOC polls call
records from the BMC through one of two serial ports. Modems attached to
the serial ports provide a physical link to other computing systems.
Switching System - BMC Interface
The BMC - Switching System interface is a hardwired connection that does
not require security protection. The BMC is acting as an MTU and is
restricted to the receive and store data functions. This activity is handled by
the software and cannot be altered without physical contact with the system.
BMC-HOC Interface
The BMC-HOC interface is more open and consequently has password
protection. The BMC modem provides access to any other compatible
modem. To prevent unauthorized access, one password for the HOC is
provided. If multiple HOCs are used, each HOC must have a password.
Human-Machine Interface
The Human-Machine interface is through a terminal that is attached to the
BMC or through a terminal and a Switching System that is attached to the
BMC (DMS-10 applications only). Individual sites may vary but, generally,
only one terminal is used with each system.
Prompts
Some commands have several options or subtasks. These commands return a
prompt with the command name. This task prompt allows direct entry and
repetition of any of the command's subtasks. If another subtask is to be
performed, only the subtask name is required. The entire command name
does not have to be repeated. To leave the command task, use the CTRL/Z,
escape sequence.
For example, to read data from a specific TEC/DSI port, and write to the port,
enter the following at the maintenance terminal:
>TECMAINT EXAMINE 1 xxxx (cr)
where: s - TEC/DSI to examine (1 or 2)
xxxx - address to examine in HEX (0000-FFFF).
The system displays the port contents and returns a command prompt:
TECMAINT>IOREAD 1 xx (cr) (read port xx)
System displays the port contents. To leave the TECMAINT command task,
press CRTL/Z (press and hold the CONTROL key and press the Z key).
