Individual users input a valid password to log into the BMC and the operating
programs. This password is entered at the beginning of a maintenance
session. The BMC will not respond to commands until the password is
entered. The password is not echoed back to the maintenance terminal as it is
entered. Entering an invalid password results in no response from the BMC.
The valid passwords are set by the system administrator and are maintained in
the site data file. This is discussed in greater detail in the System
Administration Guide section.
Note: The BMC will respond to commands without entering a password
in the first minute after a cold startup is performed.
Example of command usage
To gain access to the BMC, enter the following at the maintenance terminal:
>xxxxxx (cr)
where:
xxxxxx - a valid password.
The system responds according to the Switching System, as shown below:
xxxxxx USER yy LOGGED IN (DMS-10)
xxxxxx USER yy ON TERMINAL zz LOGGED IN (DMS-100)
where:
xxxxxx- six-character alphanumeric password.
yy- user number (01-10).
zz - terminal number.
