Choosing a
navigation source
The unit’s position displays and waypoint navigation are based
on position information obtained from any one of four avail-
able navigation data sources:
• GPS (GPS can be selected as the navigation source at any
time.)
• PHANTOM LRN (Phantom Loran coordinates are calcu-
lated from GPS coordinates. PHANTOM LRN can be used if
no loran receiver is interfaced to the system, but you’d
still like to see your position mathematically converted to,
and displayed in, loran TD coordinates.)
• EXTERNAL LRN!An external loran receiver can be used if
a loran receiver is interfaced to the unit (and is opera-
tional.)
• DEMO mode (DEMO mode is used to simulate a stationary
position—namely, the unit’s last position fix—if you want
to practice using the unit without being on your boat or
having an antenna connected. You can enter a new way-
point with the name ‘DEMO’—including the single quota-
tion marks—to establish a demo position at that
waypoint’s coordinates. The act of entering the DEMO
waypoint establishes the demo position; simply leaving a
DEMO waypoint stored in memory, or renaming an exist-
ing waypoint as ‘DEMO’, doesn’t affect the demo position.)
To enter demo mode, at the CHART screen press the
