8 Before Conducting the Examination
8.1 Prepare the Unit for Routine Operation
To start the Mesotest II for daily operation, you must:
Check the connections, sec. 7.3, page 17
Check whether the viewer is dirty
If impurities are found: Clean the viewer, also refer to sec. 13.2,
page 69.
Disinfect the viewer enclosure after every examination and the
housing whenever necessary, sec. 13.3, page 69.
8.2 Prepare the Patient for the Examination
Prepare the patient for the examination, as follows:
Check to be sure that any adaptation disorder has been resolved,
sec. 8.2.1, page 21.
Check the patient’s glasses for damage or dirt.
Explain the procedure and the optotypes to the patient. You can
show the patient the following figure:
A ring with a gap in it is used as the test symbol (opto-
type) The gap can appear in eight different positions.
Tell the patient where the gap is.
Top (12 o’clock)
Top right (1 to 2 o’clock)
Right (3 o’clock)
Bottom right (4 to 5 o’clock)
Bottom (6 o’clock)
Bottom left (7 to 8 o’clock)
Left (9 o’clock)
Top left (10 to 11 o’clock)
