Inspect the delivery optical connectors using a dedicated microscope
(refer to the following chapter for detailed guidance). Clean it if
necessary. If the end facet is damaged near the fiber core, then this
optical connector needs to be re-polished, or replaced.
5-3 How to optimize the coupling ratio
The alignment between the laser beam and the delivery fiber is performed and tested at Oxxius’ facilities.
However, small adjustments might be necessary after positioning the system in its final location. The
following paragraphs will describe how to use and adjust these elements.
COUPLING ON A SINGLE-MODE FIBER
Single mode (SM) or polarization maintaining (PM) fiber coupling are options that employ a beam coupler
from Schäfter and Kirschhoff. The high quality of these couplers guaranties a long-term stability. More
information about these coupled is available on www.SuKHamburg.de
This procedure in this section explains how to maximize the coupling efficiency (i.e. the fraction of the
lasers’s power successfully injected into the fiber), for example when you need to change or disassemble the
delivery fiber.
REQUIRED EQUIPMENT:
- A 1.5mm hexagonal key (provided)
- A 1.2mm flat screw driver (provided)
- An optical power-meter adapted to the range of power and wavelengths to be measured (typically a
few hundreds of milliwatts from 375nm to 980nm; refer to the manufacturing test report),
Refer to the packing list in section 2, “Getting started”.
CAUTION
SHUTTER AND COUPLER CENTRING
We recommend not to detach the shutter from its supporting base. Indeed, the shutter
is aligned with regards to the the beam. This delicate alignment requires some specific
tools (not provided).
