Alignment Page Does Not Print
After you install new ink cartridges, the printer does not print an alignment page as expected.
Step 1: Make sure the printer is ready to print
Load paper, look inside the printer for obstructions, and then make sure the ink cartridge access door is
completely closed.
1. Turn on the printer.
2. Make sure plain paper is loaded in the input tray and the paper guides rest against the sides of the paper
stack.
3. Open the ink cartridge access door, and then wait for the carriage to stop moving.
4. Look inside the printer for obstructions, such as packing material or tape, and then remove any that you
find.
5. Close the access door.
If an alignment page prints, complete the alignment process for your printer.
If an alignment page does not print, continue to the next step.
Step 2: Remove, inspect, and then reinstall the cartridges
Cartridges that were not installed correctly might prevent the printer from aligning.
1. Open the ink cartridge access door, and then wait for the carriage to stop moving.
CAUTION: If you are unable to access the cartridges, do not attempt to move the carriage. Skip to the
next step.
2. Remove a cartridge from the printer, make sure the protective tape and plastic are removed, and then set
it down on a clean, protected surface, such as a piece of paper.
CAUTION: Always hold cartridges by the sides. Do not touch the copper-colored contacts or ink
nozzles. Touching these parts can result in clogs, ink failure, and bad electrical connections.
3. Remove all other cartridges.
4. Check for obstructions under and around the carriage in the printer, and then remove any that you find.
5. Reinsert the cartridges, making sure they snap in place and are inserted into the correct slots.
6. Close the access door.
If an alignment page prints, complete the alignment process for your printer.
If an alignment page does not print, continue to the next step.
