EN 309Fax error codes and messages
• 412: HDLC (High Level Data Link Control) buffer timed out. If the HDLC buffer finishes due to a line drop
and loss of data, the system waits for the message to finish to resynch and retransmit data. The session
disconnected after waiting 3 seconds for a received frame from the transmitter, or the line signal was
gone more than 0.2 seconds.
• 413: You polled the receiving fax machine but it disconnected instead of sending a page. The sending
machine failed to pick the next page in the scanner, or Stop was pressed as the transmission began.
• 414: There were no documents to poll.
• 415: An invalid DCS (Digital Command Signal) was received in the command frame. A valid DCS must
correspond to the request for error correction mode (ECM) as ON or OFF.
• 416: DCS (Digital Command Signal) frame received from the sending fax machine contains a minimum
scan speed that is incompatible with the receiving machine.
• 417: When in non-error correction mode (ECM), the machine sent an RTN (Retrain Negative) indicating
the received fax had unreadable lines due to a noisy phone line. When in ECM mode, the machine failed to
receive a completely correct page after all attempts to get the sender to resend the bad frames.
• 419: Fax receive was aborted, commonly due to a lack of memory.
• 421: Phone line was disconnected after a voice session without continuing the fax session.
• 422: In non-error correction mode (ECM), the received command was unexpected.
• 431: No local response for a remote interrupt. Set by a receiver when in error correction mode (ECM). The
post-message voice request command was received and there was no local line request during a T3 time-
out.
• 441, 451: No local response for a remote interrupt. Set by a receiver when in error correction mode
(ECM). The post-message voice request command was received and there was no local line request
during a T3 time-out.
• 461: T2 timer timed out waiting for a command following an RNR (Receiver Not Ready).
• 462: DCN (Disconnect) was received in a command frame due to an RNR (Receiver Not Ready). The local
machine ran out of memory while receiving.
• 463: Receiving fax machine sent a DCN (Disconnect) after waiting 3 seconds for a received frame from the
transmitter, or the line signal was gone more than 0.2 seconds.
• 464: In error correction mode (ECM) mode, the received command was unexpected.
• 471: T2 timer timed out waiting for a command following an RNR (Receiver Not Ready).
• 472: When in error correction mode (ECM), the receiving machine transmits an ERR after four
unsuccessful retries and after possible fallbacks in modem speed.
• 473: DCN (Disconnect) was received in a command frame due to an RNR (Receiver Not Ready).
• 474: Receiving fax machine sent a DCN (Disconnect) after waiting 3 seconds for a received frame from the
transmitter, or the line signal was gone more than 0.2 seconds.
• 475: In error correction mode (ECM), the received command was unexpected.
• 481: In error correction mode (ECM), the received command was not RR (Receiver Ready).
• 501: Telephone line is busy.
• 502: DCN (Disconnect) was received in a command frame due to a CNG (Calling Tone). This signal has a
frequency of 1100 Hz.
• 503: Receiving fax machine sent a DCN (Disconnect) after waiting 3 seconds for a received frame from the
transmitter, or the line signal was gone more than 0.2 seconds.
• 504: Command following CNG (Calling Tone) was invalid.
• 505: T1 timer elapsed and no response was received. ‘No answer’ displayed on the journal report.
• 511: Receiver is non-compatible for customizable functions.
• 512: Receiver is non-compatible or polling was requested and denied.
• 513: Polling password is incorrect. Your machine was polled and there was no document to send.
