The three most important piston/cylinder positions are described below
Start position / filling
The brewing cylinder is located a little way beneath the centre
of the full range of the piston. The lower piston is at the lower
end of the brewing cylinder. This provides the maximum cylin-
der volume for filling with freshly ground coffee. The ground
coffee is filled from the grinder through the inlet and the fun-
nel.
Brewing
The brewing cylinder and the lower piston are located at the
upper end of the piston range. The outlet piston closes the
brewing cylinder at the top and the ground coffee is pressed
onto it. The brewing water is pressed up from below into the
brewing cylinder and the coffee runs up through the outlet
piston and the elbow union to the outlet.
The two positions of “open brewing cylinder” and “re-pressing”
differ only very slightly from this setting. At “open brewing
cylinder” the brewing cylinder is moved downwards by a few
millimetres after the ground coffee has been pressed and pre-
brewed. During the re-pressing, the brewing cylinder is moved
slightly upwards after the brewing process and kept in this
position for a short period, so that the rest of the water in the
coffee grounds can be pressed out through the supply pipe
and through the flush/brewing valve (Booster).
Eject coffee grounds
The brewing cylinder and the lower piston are at the lower end
of the piston range. The friction piston 2000 presses the lower
piston through the brewing cylinder as far as its top edge. The
stripper ejects the pressed coffee grounds in a swivel move-
ment.
Once the grounds have been ejected the brewing cylinder and
lower piston move back to the start position.
