10.6.1
Overview
The integrated safety functions of SINUMERIK Safety Integrated are used in the machine tools
sector. They are integrated with two channels in the NC, the drive and the internal PLC, and are
used to monitor speed, standstill and position. Such monitoring is necessary if the danger zone
of the machines and systems is not blocked off.
During operation, the integrated safety functions provide effective operator protection as well
as protection of tools, materials and machines.
In the TIA Portal, you can select one of three modes in conjunction with the SINUMERIK:

Software options for Safety Integrated (SPL)
To configure SINUMERIK Safety Integrated (SPL), SIMATIC STEP 7 Safety Advanced (TIA
Portal) without license suffices. (SIMATIC STEP 7 Safety Advanced without license
corresponds to the F-configuration tool from STEP 7 V5.x)
To use the configuring in SINUMERIK Operate, you require the appropriate software options:
