Installing peripherals
5.1.5 Attaching SCSI peripherals
The following SCSI (Small Computer System Interface) devices can be connected
to the system unit:
via single-ended SCSI
one or two peripherals boxes (containing one or two of the following drives)
4 mm or 8 mm cartridge tape drive
quarter-inch cartridge tape drive
OD (optical disk) drive
CD-ROM drive
4 mm tape jukebox
magnetic disks
hard disk drives
peripherals cabinet for 3

inch hard disk drives
via differential SCSI
8 mm tape jukebox
OD jukebox
peripherals cabinet for 3

/

inch hard disk drives
The devices that are to be attached to the SCSI ports must be set up in the
immediate vicinity of the system unit as there is a limit on the length of the cable
connections. The maximum overall length for SCSI connecting cables routed
outside the system unit housing is two meters for single-ended SCSI connections
and 15 meters for differential SCSI connections.
Further information is given in the operating manual for the peripherals box.
The SCSI port (external) is intended for single-ended SCSI devices, while the
optional SCSI ports are for any additional SCSI devices associated with controllers
which have been installed in the expansion slots.
