6.4 Installing a new drive
Ê Check that the original packaging that the drive was shipped in is undamaged.
Before installation the drive must have stood at room temperature for at
least two hours.
Ê Open the packaging and take out the drive, which is in an ESD protection
wrapper to protect it against electrostatic discharge.
Ê Carefully place the drive in its ESD wrapper, with its large surface facing down,
on something soft (such as packaging material from the original packaging) to
prevent damage to the highly sensitive mechanical components.
Ê Remove the ESD wrapper from the new drive.
Ê Make sure that the drive is housed in a 3
1/2
" OLR shuttle with LEDs visible on
the front and fitted with a handle.
Never touch the pin array on the back of the OLR shuttle. Electrostatic
discharges may destroy the drive electronics.

Ê Pick up the OLR shuttle containing the drive by gripping the outer frame,
keeping one hand under the shuttle.
