A.Checkthereelshaftforbendinganddistortionbyplacingtheshaftends
inV-blocks.
B.Checkthereelbladesforbendingorcracking.
C.Checktheservicelimitofthereeldiameter;refertoPreparingtheReel
forGrinding(page7–34).
D.Checkthethreadsintheendsofthereelshaft.
3.Checkthewoodruffkeyslotandhexdriveonthereeldriveshaft(item5in
Figure179)forexcessivewearordistortion.Replacethedriveshaftifthere
isanydamage.
AssemblingtheCuttingUnit
1.Ifthebearingsand/orockedsealswereremovedfromthereelshaft,discard
andreplacethecomponentsthatwereremoved.
IMPORTANT
Theockedsealshouldbeinstalledsothattheockedsideofthe
sealistowardthebearinglocation.
2.Presstheockedsealsontothereelshaftwiththeockedsideorientated
towardthebearinglocation.Thesealshouldbeperpendiculartothereel
shaftafterinstallation.
3.Slidethebearingsfullyontothereelshaft.Thebearingsshouldbottomon
thereelshaftshoulder.
