6.7 Checking Glow Plug Wiring

6.7.1 Place the keyswitch in the ON position.
6.7.2 Check for battery voltage between the R/Or glow plug wire (a) and
ground.
If battery voltage is not measured, check the continuity and
connections of wiring.
If battery voltage is measured, check the function of the glow plugs.
6.8 Checking Glow Plugs

6.8.1 Remove the glow plug from the engine.
Burn hazard. Glow plugs can reach temperatures up to 1200°F
(649°C). Do not touch the element of the glow plug. Be extremely
careful when testing the glow plug.
6.8.2 Using 10-gauge wire, apply 12VDC to the glow plug—positive on the
upper portion and ground the base. If the glow plug does not heat
(glow) within five seconds, replace the glow plug.
Note: If any one of the glow plugs needs replacing, replace all of them.
