Color Correction
are interpolated and then displayed approximately. The more colors are measured, the
more precise the color representation will be later. Since the image of the monitor
changes with time, this calibration should be repeated from time to time.
A calibrated screen ensures that a certain hue is displayed
realistically on the monitor, but that does unfortunately
not mean that the display also corresponds to the later
print result.
Since the CMYK color space is smaller than the RGB color
space, it is strongly recommended to display the image
on the monitor with activated CMYK color proof function
before printing, so that the target color space can be
rated most bindingly.
To create an ICC profile it is required to print a certain color palette on a specific
substrate and then to read it in with a colorimeter. Thru that measuring, the color
calibration software can determine the extent to which which hue differs from the
desired hue.
However, the accuracy of the measurement and the resulting ICC profile depends on
many other factors, such as the print quality, the background, the number of color
patches used, the quality of the measuring system, the setting of many parameters and
much more.
The documentation of the software "ArgyllCMS" at
http://www.argyllcms.com/doc/ArgyllDoc.html provides a deep technical insight into the
many possibilities and the influence of color correction on printing results.
