5.3 Ink cartridge
The ink is contained in the cartridge ink ducts and the viscosity and
surface tension of the ink prevents it from running out. .
A heating element, which generates a steam bubble when current
is briefly applied (1.9 µs), is fitted behind each jet opening.
This steam bubble gives the ink between the heating element and
the jet opening an impulse and therefore “shoots” a defined
quantity of ink out of the opening.
When the steam bubble reforms, a corresponding quantity is drawn
from the storage container and the process can begin again. This
process of ejecting an ink drop can be repeated 10,000 times a
second.
Print images 1 mm to 12.7 mm high can be produced with a wide
variety of fonts.
Various special tints are available for coding on many different
surfaces.
