7. Receiver Modes
A. Directional Peak (Dir Pk)
Locate/OK [5] + Cable/Pipe [SK] + Mode [SK] + Dir Pk [SK Toggle]
InDirPkmode,fourpeakantennasareusedtoanalyzethemagneticfieldpattern.The
Bar Graph[1l]indicatesSignal Strength[10]andthedirectionalarrowssensetheedges
ofthemagneticfield.Theleft/rightarrowswillindicatethedirectiontothenearestcable
thatisin-linewiththereceiverhandle.
Astheantennacrossesthecableorpipe,thereceiverspeakervolumeincreasestoa
maximum,theBar Graph[1l]fillsfrombothsidestowardthemiddle,andthenumeric
Signal Strength[10]increases.Astheantennamovesoffthetargetpath,thespeaker
volumedecreasesandtheBar Graph[1l]opens.UsetheBar Graph[1l]andthenumeric
Signal Strength[10]valuetolocatetheexacttargetpath.
Left of Target Path Directly Over Target Path
Right of Target Path
Oncethetargetpathhasbeenlocated,thearrowsatthetopofthedisplaywillindicate
thelocationofthetargetpathinrelationshiptothereceiver.
Note: When field distortion (due to congestion) is affecting the receiver the left/right
arrows may not coincide with the bar graph. Use the maximum numerical signal
strength to target the cable or pipe.
B. Directional Null (DirNull)
Locate/OK [5] + Cable/Pipe [SK] + Mode [SK] + DirNull [SK Toggle]
InDirNullmode,astheoperatorapproachesthecableorpipe,thenumericalSignal
Strength[10]willincreasethenfallsharplyasthereceivercrossesthetargetcable
orpipe.TheBar Graph[1l]fillsfrombothsidestowardthemiddleandthereceiver
speakervolumedecreases.Astheantennamovesoffthetargetpath,theBar Graph[1l]
opens,theSignal Strength[10]increases,andthespeakervolumeincreases.Gainadjust
isautomaticinDirNullmode.
ThecenteroftheDirNulldisplayprovidesa‘compassview'ofthetargetpath.Anarrow
willpointtowardthelocationofthecable/pipein45-degreesteps.Asolidlinewill
appearoverthecable/pipe,indicatingitsorientationtothereceiverhandle.
