10. Locating in Directional Peak Mode
Thefollowingareinstructionsforlocatingaburiedpipeorcableusingthedirectconnect
methodandthedirectionalpeak(DirPk)mode.Othermethodsofconnectionand
tracingmodes/featuresareexplainedinprevioussections.
1. Insertthegroundrodintotheground,perpendiculartothesuspectedtargetpath.
2. Removethegroundingfromthenear-endofthetargetcable/pipe.
Note: Never connect or disconnect the transmitter when the unit is on.
3. Connecttheredleadofthetransmittertotheshield,neutral,ordeenergizedtarget
conductor.
4. Connecttheblackleadofthetransmittertothegroundrod.
5. Performabatterycheckbypressingandholdingoff[T-1].
6. PoweronthetransmitterbypressingOhms [T-2]onceforOhm-metermode.An
indicatorflagwillbedisplayedabovetheohmssymbol(Ω)intheDigital Display
[T-4].
a. Asolidtonefromthetransmitterindicatesacompletecircuitwithagood
ground.
b. Abeepingtonefromthetransmitterindicatesausableground.Anattempt
shouldbemadetoimprovetheground.
c. Notonefromthetransmitterindicatesapoor,ornoground.Thetransmitterwill
display‘OL’inthisinstance.Anattemptshouldbemadetoimprovetheground.
Verifythatthefarendisgrounded.
7. PressTrace [T-3]tosetthetransmittertoTracemode.
8. SelectafrequencyonthetransmitterbypressingTrace [T-3].Theunitwillcycle
throughtheavailablefrequencies(577,8K,33K,200K,andALL).
