On a precision approach, terrain cautions or warnings are not anticipated. On a
nonprecision approach, a terrain caution or warning is probable depending on the rate
of descent toward the terrain.
Landings at most airports do not generate an alert. Some airports with unusual
topography may generate alerts when the Flight Path Marker points toward nearby
higher terrain.
If multiple landings are anticipated at a runway that elicits alerts, TWS can be inhibited
in the Menu.
4.10.6.6 TWS Inhibit
The Terrain Warning System (TWS) can be inhibited by the pilot, which removes the
following features from the display (Figure 4-149):
• Terrain Coloring
• FPM Coloring
• Caution/Warning Text Annunciations and
• Aural/Audio Alert
The TWS Inhibit is controlled from the MENU and has three settings;
• ON The TWS is enabled.
• INH The TWS Alerts are inhibited.
• SV ONLY The TWS Alerts are enabled only when Synthetic Vision is displayed.
Whenever TWS is inhibited, “TWS INH” is annunciated on the Nav Display
