15.3 Washing and drying the dust filters
About filter washing and drying
For environments where popcorn gr ease and such can contaminate the filters, B arco advises the client to purchase one extra set
of filters to cover drying time, as well as taking following ex tra precautions and instructions pertaining to filter cleaning and drying.
Cleansing agent
To clean sticky, greasy dust filters we suggest usage of Sodium carbonate crysta ls (Na

). S odium carbonate (Often called
washing soda, soda crystals, orsal soda in the detergent section of stores) is widely used to effectively remo ve oil, grease, alcohol
stains … The product itself is relatively safe, sodium carbonate is used in toothpastes and as a food additive (E500). Potential
Hazards are described in the section "Hazards", page 157.

This cleaning procedure assumes that the fi lters are already removed from the p rojector.
Take into account that the time needed to dry the dust filters may b e 24 hours o r m ore. Fo r that, it’s recom-
mended to have a second set of dust filters which can be use
d wh ile cleaning the first set.
Necessary tools
• Buc ket with hot water.
• Sodium carbonate, 30 gram (handful) per liter hot water.
How to wash and dry the dust filters?
1. Make a solution with a ratio of 30 gram (a handful) sodium carbonate t o 1 liter hot water.
2. Soak the dust fi lters in the s olution for 30 to 60 minutes. Th e grease s hould be dissolved after 1 hour.
3. If the dust filter is still c logged repeat this procedure from step 1.
4. Rinse the dust filters with clean water to flush all grease residue away.
5. Shake out all ex cess liquid by repeatedly sw inging the filter to-and-fro in a centrifugal action.
6. Then allow the filters to dry thoroughly. Typically this can take up to 24h and more, depending on the drying conditions.
Note: Drying time of the dust filters c an be up to 24h or more. Drying time can be shorter when being done in a well-ventilated
area.
Tip: To s peed-up drying, allow the filt er(s) to
dry at 50°C max in a well ventilated room.
CAUTION: UNDER NO CIRCUM STANCES SHOULD WET FILTERS BE INSTALLED BACK INTO THE PROJEC-
TOR. THIS CA N HAV E SERIOUS SAFETY CONSEQUENCES AS W ELL AS JEOPARDIZE THE INTERNAL OP-
TICS OF THE SYST EM.
CAUTION: Do not install/use damaged dust filters. Rep lace damaged dust filters immediately with new dust
filters o f the same type. See h
