Temperature Control With Loss of Trim Air
[Option – English / Metric units]
If the left or right trim air system is off, the cabin temperature controllers attempt
to maintain all zones at the average target temperature. Flight deck temperature is
maintained between 65º and 85º F / 18º and 29º C.
The flight deck may become uncomfortably warm or cool. Setting the CABIN
TEMP selector to a cooler or warmer master temperature may achieve a cooler or
warmer flight deck temperature.
Shoulder and Foot Heaters
Flight crew shoulder heat is provided by electric elements in the side window air
diffusers. The foot heaters have electric heating elements only, with no airflow.
Both are available in flight only.
Cargo Temperature Control System
The forward and bulk cargo compartments have independent temperature control
systems. The aft cargo compartment is heated but the compartment temperature is
uncontrolled. An insulated curtain separates the aft and bulk cargo compartments.
Forward Cargo Heat
[Option – No forward cargo A/C]
The forward cargo compartment is capable of carrying live animals. Ventilation
and heat are provided by forward E/E cooling exhaust, an in-line electric heater
and a forward cargo exhaust fan. Automatic ventilation ensures that odors do not
go from the cargo compartment to the flight deck or passenger cabin.
[Option – English / Metric units]
With the FWD CARGO TEMP switch set to AUTO, the fwd cargo heater operates
to maintain a target temperature of 70º F / 21º C. The EICAS advisory message
CARGO HEAT FWD notifies the flight crew if a shutdown occurs or if a switch
is off.
Forward Cargo Compartment Air Conditioning System
[Option – Forward cargo A/C}
The forward cargo compartment air conditioning system provides temperature
control and conditioned air for the transport of perishable, live, or other
temperature sensitive cargo.
Ventilation and conditioned air are provided by forward E/E cooling exhaust, a
dedicated refrigeration unit, an in-line electric heater and a forward cargo exhaust
fan. Automatic ventilation and LOW / HIGH flow selector settings ensures that
odors do not go from the cargo compartment to the flight deck or passenger cabin.
